The Jefferson County Sheriff and the DNR patrol our lake and can levy sizeable fines for boating violations. Fines normally begin at over $100.
Please inform your guests of all lake rules.
Please be safe and follow the rules while having fun on the lake.
Lake Weed Management:
Weed control is provided on the lake from the time the milfoil appears and throughout the summer months. The intent is that each section of the lake is cut once a week. Any weeds you remove from the lake can be put on the end of the pier or on your shoreline for pick up by the weed cutter or can be taken directly to the compost site and dumped in the appropriate location. Weeds should be removed as they float to shore to prevent their decaying. Decaying weeds add to a mucky lake bottom, or worse, the weeds can take root and regenerate. Conscientious and responsible owners should remove loose weeds, for the betterment of the entire lake community.
Lake Road Safety and Parking:
The lake roads are narrow, curvy, and have little or no shoulder. They are posted with reduced speed limits so we can enjoy walking, biking, walking our dogs and children at play. On North Blue Spring Lake Drive from Hwy H to the triangle, the speed limit is 35 miles per hour. On the rest of North Blue Spring Lake Drive and South Shore Drive, the speed limit is 25 miles per hour. For safety sake, please observe these limits. If you have guests, be sure that you inform them where to park so that we can keep our roads safe and clear for traffic. On North Blue Spring Lake Drive from Hwy H to the triangle, parking is permitted as posted by signs. On the rest of North Blue Spring Lake Drive and South Shore Drive, no parking is permitted within 15 feet of the center line of the roadway. These speed limit and parking regulations are posted on signs at both Blue Spring Lake Drive and Hwy H locations and again at South Shore Drive and Hwy H.
Natural Disaster Procedures:
Town's responsibility in care of natural disaster:
1) Provide dumpsters
2) Dumpsters will be located at triangle
3) Town will deal with damage to roads - not to private residences
4) Can provide power backup for medical purposes
Resident's responsibilities in case of natural disasters:
1) Clean up of private residences
2) Make certain your insurance is up to date and covers damage from natural disasters
3) Help your neighbors!
When natural disasters strike, clean-up may involve disposal of items often stored in garages, basements, etc. We now have garbage removal that allows us to dispose of electronic waste (e-waste) monthly on the same day as the bulk pickup. However, YOU MUST CALL OR E-MAIL THE GARBAGE COMPANY AHEAD OF TIME! SEE THE GARBAGE AND RECYCLE CALENDAR CALENDAR FOR THE DATES, PHONE NUMBER AND E-MAIL ADDRESS. We no longer need to wait for the disposal day at the County Fairgrounds and pay to get rid of such items. Everyone got a calendar in their tax bill with garbage days and bulk waste pick=up days. Please post that calendar where you can see it. It is also posted on this website. Make an effort to keep up with e-waste and bulk waste removal. Not allowing this to accumulate will make things much simpler if there ever is a natural disaster affecting you.
